Searching the Library Catalogue

Keyword Search (on the catalogue home page)

Allows you to find records quickly.

  • Enter the keywords you would like to search on.

Tip:

  • Use the title and the author surname for a more targeted search.
  • Don’t include prepositions in your search e.g. the, and etc. It will reduce the number of irrelevant search results you get.
  • Select the collection from the drop-down or leave as Full catalogue if you would like to see all collections.
  • Enter or click the Search icon.

Advanced Search

Use Advanced Search if you have more details of the item you're looking for or if you want to search on a particular field e.g. Series Title, Publication Year or Language.

Use the drop-down boxes to:

  • Select your search criteria e.g. Author.
  • Contains, is a phrase or an exact match of the search term.
  • Add an operator to join two search terms e.g. and, not or or.
  • Include additional information such as ISBN.

You also have different search options on the left-hand menu on the Advanced Search page.

  • Quick search
    • Phrase – find items with the words you have entered in a sequence
    • Exact match – find items matching only the words you have entered
    • Fuzzy – with anywhere selected, fuzzy search option will find records containing any of the terms or forms of the terms entered.
  • Title.
  • Author.
  • Subject.
  • Advanced.
  • Issues.

If you are unsure about the Title or Author name, you can use Browse which will return a list of similar search results.
